Feel The DJ

Paul Gardner - Music In My Soul (Original Mix)

This track has really been working me. Great deep house hook over a slightly tribal drum with a a hint of 2010 tech and an excellent vocal loop. Great crescendo!

Happy New Year Everyone! Wishing all of you the very best in 2011!

Why don't I ever pass a hitch hiker like this? Say hello to Anderson Davis. I promise Anderson if you ever need a ride, you can count on me!

Razor & Guido Ft. Tara Harrison - Without You (Main Mix Vocal)

A great combination of the classic Razor Guido formula with a touch of 2010 house sounds. Sassy and classy vocal house for the gay bar.

Moranergy

Tony Moran Ft. Ultra Nate - Destination (Edson Pride Epic Mix)

Once again Edson delivers the best of the circuit flavored mixes. The (New Era Anthem) is really good as well but I still side with Pride.

This Old Bitch...

will let you have it on the dance floor to this track! Don't make me pop a Geritol!

Yolanda Be Cool - Afro Nuts (Original)

Girl one word PERCUSSION! Ok more than one word excellent vocal edits. Pure House Music!

Did someone say nuts?

Make It Better

Soulmagic & Ebony Soul Ft. Ann Nesby - Get Your Thing Together

Oh my love for classic soulful house knows no limits and this track makes that love blossom. Inspirational vocals, funk, soul, and percussion. Can I get an Amen! The only trouble is, I can't decide which version I like best. The divine Mr. Jamie Lewis gives us a deeper darker version while the Soulmagic dub delivers a crisper heavy on the funk version. As Prince recently said "get your foot spray, cause it's getting funky in here".

Austin City Limits Music Festival

ACL 2010

Since not all things in life revolve around house music and because I am a fan of most music in general, I thought I'd share some of my highlights from the 2010 ACL Festival in Austin, TX.

1. If you have not heard White Rabbits then you need too. I was completely unaware of the band and completely blown away when I stumbled upon their show at the AMD stage. Rock with a "MIKA" edge. In a word extraordinary!

2. Grace Potter & The Nocturnals were flat out fantastic. In between songs at Basia Bulat, I heard a female vocalist whaling away like Tina Turner. I looked up to my right and the jumbo tron at the AMD stage showed me women with long blonde locks and sequin dress thrashing about like a mad women. Of course I immediately kicked everyone off my blanket, announced I was clearly at the wrong show and proceeded to move to the AMD stage code red. This band and most notably this women absolutely threw down. It was an amazing show!

3. In Gospel/Blues tent I got the divine pleasure of being introduced to Beats Antique. Some where between India, Tennessee, and Sound Factory is where you'll find this unique bands sound. A dramatic contrast and combination of sounds that miraculously works. Sadly my camera batteries died this day and I have no photo to share with you.

4. Deadmau5 was everything you would expect him to be. It was a fun show that magically translated well to an outdoor "live" music festival. Some of my friends who are hard core anti-house music heads were even won over. By far this was the youngest audience I was in.

There were many other shows that were good or fantastic such as T Bird & The Breaks, Carolyn Wonderland, The Relatives, and of course Muse who seriously rocked. If you are looking for a break from the house beat, check out some of these great talents. Below is a picture of yours truly with a couple of my wing-women and a closing shot as I walked out of beautiful Zilker Park.

It's Like Butter

Duck Sauce - Barbra Streisand (Original)

Awe Lawdy! Duck Sauce is back with another fun dance floor smack down. Disco in nature with an electro sensibility, this tracks simple verbal chant of Babs will have the queeny queens working. Really fun track.

And if doesn't, this delicious photo of Jake G surely will. I don't know if I have ever wanted to see a movie so badly.

Look Out Sukka

TNT Inc. Vs. Alex Dimitri - Jingo (Miguel Migs Salted Remix)

Migs lays it down with his Salted mix. Taking a classic and working it over with funky guitar loops, excellent percussion, sweet bass, and one very subtle gay vocal edit. Not known for being a titian of the gay house music scene but highly respected in terms of proper/soul house circles, I was surprised and impressed by the use of a very popular gay vocal hook. House music baby all night long.

Aint Nothing Like The Real Thing

Rebeka Brown - Real Things (Taito Tikaro Essence Remix 2010)

Cute mainstream track with a progressive touch and just the slightest hint of tribal. Really enjoyed the guitar loop myself. Vocal lovers will be all over this.

Hair Weave Wearing Kathy Lee K-Mart Shopping

Karma - Business Class (Tribal Dub)

I'm not sure why I didn't post this eons ago. It explodes on the dance floor like a circuit boy on viagra and any other number of drugs. Sassy Gay House Music. I love to drop this track as a surprise. It always gets a reaction. This track among many others is always in my case under the classics section.

Music Is

Nick Harvey Presents Halo - Pure Love (Nick Harvey Main Club Mix)

Well what can I say, Nick Harvey Did It Again. You will understand when you hear the classic reproduction loop.

CALIENTE

Eddie Amador & Corey Andrew - Dancefloor Emergency

Well listen to me. Ain't but two things come outta house music. That's steers and that's queers. And honey, I don't see no horns! Walk Work Live Eat Sleep Work to the Beat. Amador nails it in two awesome versions, one tribal and one classic disco house. This is a code red, get it while it's hot and you can, fantastic house music track. Dare I say it rivals his... Oh no I couldn't possibly or could I?

Hello friends and followers. The move to the temp home is complete and I am back on line at least partially. This is the time of year that my paying job goes ape shit crazy busy so my posting will be, as I can.

Todays offering is a simple house house track. Great sassy vocal edits and classic drum beats. A bit on the tribal side with a touch of sax.

Cult of GaGa

Lady GaGa - Alejandro (Ander Standing Mix)

Ok, I have a confession. Although I sincerely didn't want to and am a little sick to my stomach about it, I have to admit after seeing the Larry King interview with a crooked sun glass wearing GaGa, I kind of like her.

So in honor of her seduction of my soul, I give you what she called her homage to gay people or at least Ander Standing's tribal version of that track. It's no Bad Romance but it's a nice tribal whipping of a pop song by the reigning queen of the radio airwaves.

It appears this lil "Alejandro" is ready for a whipping.

Happy Days

Oliver m & Jean Philips Ft. Sua Amoa - Strings of Motion (Ivan Gomez Vocal Mix)

Nice little vocal progressive track. Simple yet energetic.

GET IT

Dennis Ferrer - Hey Hey (Vandalism Mix)

Not at all like the original which is a classic but very good. Great energy, fusing elements of mainstream, electro and tribal, Vandalism scores big with this one.

Now Speaking of scoring, say hello to Sam.

Hey Mambo

Shaft - Mucho Mambo -Sway- (Eric Witlox Ft. Garuda)

Shaft & Eric stick the fun back in house music. There are tons of tracks like this and I confess, they get me every time. There is something grand about taking songs from a completely different era and slapping them in the face with a big hard bouncing house beat. This track has great energy, although I wish the vocal track had been worked in over the duration rather than just break the break downs.

You Don't Think You Pay? You Pay!

Zelma Davis - Free Love (Rafael M. Vocal Vibe Mix)

Several mixes of this track deliver but only Rafael's brings the dark dirty bass that is evident from the first note. Although this mix is a little less energetic than the (Barry Harris Club Mix), it's still my personal favorite.

Now speaking of Free Love, I'm, waiting for the day Daniel starts handing it out.

Departure From Dance

Have you ever been at friends house and have them put on a record and in an instant you are like "What Is This?" I love finding little gems like this. That having been said, I'm roughly 20 years late discovering this gem in a sea of musical mediocrity.

If you have not already been acquainted, let me be the first to introduce you to STEREO TOTAL. A French German duo that has been churning out Atmospheric Punk Disco since the early nineties. This is some quirky super awesome stuff and I highly recommend it.

Below find a link to their 2007 recording Paris-Berlin. Don't be fooled there are many other records out there by this dynamic duo and a new one on the way. In addition is a youtube clip of their cover of "Drive My Car"

My Eyes They Can Look See

Analog People In A Digital World vs. Tim Deluxe Ft. Sam Obernik - Just Wont Do (ATFC & Warren Clarke Re-Vamp)

A touch of tribal combined with the original horn loops and vocals of Obernik really "WORK ME DAMN IT"!

Much like Chris Campanioni's ripped body.

This And That

Ralphi Rosario - Do This Thing (Ralphi's Soca Extended Mix)

Ralphi delivers again with this tribal bomb that contains vocal edits that remind me of early nineties bitch house.

Come On Do It

Nightrhymes Ft. Tasita D'mour - Keep On Pushing

Great vocal house! The original lends itself to mainstream soul/beach house sound. Then there is the Aaron Ross Vocal with it's deep bass and darker nature. Both versions are really good but I have to give the props to Ross. A real stand out in terms of proper deep/soul house.

HOT HOUSE!

Yolanda Be Cool & Dcup - We No Speak Americano (Original)

A very fun take on jazz and house music. It wont be for everybody but it is a simple track so you can add drums or any other loops to bring more energy or have it lean in a certain genres direction.
